Sept. 13 National Peanut Day – A Few Fun Facts

  1. Peanuts are not nuts. They grow underground and are part of the legume family.
  2. Peanuts are an excellent source of several B vitamins, vitamin E, manganese, magnesium, phosphorus, antioxidants and dietary fiber. They also contain about 25g protein per 100g serving!
  3. In the US by law, any peanut butter branded product must be at least 90% peanuts.
  4. It takes about 540 peanuts to make a 12oz jar of peanut butter, approx. 45 peanuts per ounce of peanut butter.
  5. Women and children tend to prefer creamy peanut butter, while most men opt for chunky. East coasters prefer creamy and West Coasters lean towards crunchy style.
  6. The Huffington Post in Sep 2014 asked, “What makes the best peanut butter and jelly sandwich? Results: 36% say strawberry jam is favorite (grape is 31%); favorite bread is white bread (54%); favorite type of peanut butter is smooth (56%) and 80% like their PB&J with the crust left on.
  7. Arachibutyrophobia is a fear of peanut butter sticking to the roof of one’s mouth.
  8. There are two former presidents who were peanut farmers: Jimmy Carter and Thomas Jefferson.
  9. There are six cities in the US named: Peanut, CA; Lower Peanut, PA; Upper Peanut, PA; Peanut, PA; Peanut, TN and Peanut, WV.

St. Patty Day Candy and Leprechaun Treats

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! What began as a religious feast day in the 17th century has evolved into a variety of events celebrating Irish culture around the world with parades, special foods, music, dancing and a whole lot of green. We thought about turning the Merrimack River green for the holiday like they do in Chicago, but then decided a fun festive candy table might be more helpful in your celebrations. Visit us for all your St. Patty Day candy and leprechaun treats. Green, white and even rainbow!

Visit us in store. We have many colorful Easter Baskets made with top quality treats and gourmet chocolates. Also new this year – have us assemble your Easter basket. Easter is April 1, 2018.

• Pick your basket.
• Pick your candy.
• Pick out your bow color.
• Pay for basket, candy, $1.50 for bag, bow, fill and grass. Plus $1.00 for us to assemble.
• Then let us do the rest.
• Pickup before close of business Saturday, March 31 at 6 pm.
• Taking orders thru Saturday, March 17, 2018.
